“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character” is one of the most famous sentences in Martin Luther Kings’ “I Have a Dream” speech delivered in Washington D.C. at the National Mall in front of an audience a quarter million people, over 58 years ago.
While his dream has not been realized yet, his message transcends time and place. His speech calls people of all nations to only consider a person’s character when encountering them. Today more than ever, skin color, age, gender, religion, orientation, political affiliation, or nationality are facts of a person that should be irrelevant in our assessment of that person.
Character is what counts, and today we hope everyone takes time to reflect on the hopeful goals and lessons from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
