I am honored and excited to be participating in a very unique panel discussion entitled “Financial Advice in a Covid World”. Main Street Magazine is hosting this free event on Zoom, with Editor-in-Chief Thorunn Kristjansdottir moderating. I will be joining the Managing Director of Dorchester Advisors, Dushyant Pandit, and I am especially excited for the opportunity to join individual investor, Judy Gafney who will share her journey of finding a new financial advisor. I am humbled as Judy used my book to help her understand the advisor landscape and switch advisors. Please join us for this free event Thursday July 9th at 11:00am est. by registering here.
There is a very interesting backdrop to this event. First, the readers of Main Street Magazine represent a wide spectrum of investors & consumers. The magazine serves a community about 2 ½ hours north of Manhattan straddling New York and Connecticut, where about half of the readers are middle-income and working class and the other half are part-time residents who typically have multiple vacation homes and are high and ultra-high net worth investors. Main Street is a beautifully produced publication that I have been reading for years, and ironically only recently had the pleasure of meeting the editor Thurunn at a social event attended by both our children.
My co-panelist, Dushyant and I have a relationship going back several years, but last year we spoke together on a panel at the Wharton Club of New Jersey. The event was centered around the financial advice industry and retirement, and it went so well that we wanted to do another event together. I measured the events success by the fact that nearly all of the events’ 60-plus attendees had questions for us and in fact we ran out of time and could not get to all them all.
The third interesting aspect to our panel discussion will be Judy Gafney’s perspective. Judy read my book and after reading the dedication (to my wife and daughter), she realized she knew my mother-in-law and reached out as she wanted to meet. Judy had been looking to change financial advisors for quite some time and found my book very helpful in both making the decision to switch and finding and hiring a new advisor. I met with Judy and her husband and after a two-hour long coffee meeting, I realized her perspectives were quite enlightening and could be educational for other investors looking for an advisor for the first time or switching advisors.
In true Covid fashion, this event will be held on Zoom. I hope many people can join us and learn from the panels’ perspectives as well as ask questions for what we hope will be a very interactive event.
